Other uTorrent Tweaks
Torrent Ratio Keeper can really help increase uTorrent speed. However, it's always a good idea to make sure that have tweaked uTorrent to get the most out of it. Here's a few tips that might help:
- Set your max speeds. Using a site like http://www.speedtest.net or uTorrent's built in speed guide will help you figure out your max speed. Now set uTorrent's upload/download max speeds to about 5-10% under this. You should notice that this will increase uTorrent speed. If the traffic is going at your connection's very maximum speed, it can actually slow itself down, choking some of the p2p communication behind the actual p2p data.
- Change uTorrent's port settings to something over 10,000. Some ISPs throttle default torrent ports, which can slow you down.
- Enable encryption. This step will obscure what your traffic is, again helping prevent your ISP from throttling it.
- Make sure to forward uTorrent's port (unless you're keeping it closed, as mentioned before.) While this isn't entirely necessary thanks to TRK, it can still help increase uTorrent speed on some torrents.
These simple steps, along with using Torrent Ratio Keeper, should ensure that you get the best torrent speeds possible with your connection, as long as there's enough peers.
